Prosthodontics is one of those words you may never have heard before. It’s one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. Dentists who are prosthodontists specialize in replacing missing teeth. The term “prostho” comes from the Greek word for “replacement” and “dont” means “tooth.” The replacement tooth is often referred to as a prosthesis.

At [OFFICE], we have two prosthodontists on our team. Prosthodontists truly are the experts when it comes to replacing teeth with bridges, dentures, dental implants, and other devices designed to replace missing teeth and restore your smile to its full functionality.

How is a Prosthodontist Different from a General Dentist?

While all prosthodontists are dentists, only a few general dentists complete the necessary education to become a prosthodontist. Prosthodontists complete dental school and then finish an additional three years of advanced training in a prosthodontics graduate program accredited by the American Dental Association.

Prosthodontists have the training, the experience, and the latest techniques needed to treat complex dental conditions. Prosthodontists can replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, or even a full row of teeth. They are frequently experts in treating TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorders) as well.

What Services do our Prosthodontists in [CITY] Provide?

Prosthodontists provide a wide range of services to restore teeth or replace missing teeth. Here’s a look at a few of them:

Bridges

A bridge spans the space left by a missing tooth or several missing teeth in a row. One of our prosthodontists in [GEOID] will create a series of artificial teeth that look just like natural teeth. A bridge requires crowns to be placed over the healthy teeth on either side of the gap; these are attached to the replacement tooth or teeth in the middle. It’s one solid piece, although no one looking at it would ever realize that. They look like individual teeth. READ MORE

Partial Denture

A partial denture is also designed to span the space left by a single missing tooth or several missing teeth. In this case, the missing teeth do not have to be in a row. Unlike a bridge, which is permanently attached by crowns to healthy teeth in your mouth, the partial denture has clasps that simply wrap around the healthy teeth in your mouth. You remove the partial denture each night to clean and store it. READ MORE

Full Denture

Also known as a complete denture, a full denture contains an entire row of replacement teeth. It’s used when a person has lost all of the upper or lower teeth. This is a removable prosthetic; the denture-wearer takes it out each night to clean and store. READ MORE

Dental Implants

Dental implants replace the root of the missing tooth. A tiny post is embedded in the jawbone, just like the root of a natural tooth, and then can be topped with a crown, bridge, or denture. Dental implants are a long-lasting, natural-looking solution to missing teeth and restore both the mouth’s functionality and appearance. READ MORE

Implant-Supported Dentures

Our prosthodontists at [OFFICE] are trained in the All-on-4® Treatment Concept to create permanent dentures. It uses four dental implants to anchor a full row of replacement teeth. Unlike removable dentures, the implant-supported denture stays in the mouth 24-hours-a-day. It doesn’t require any messy denture adhesive, reduces jaw resorption and premature wrinkling, and never slips or slides. READ MORE
